Asus Chromebit CS10 Stick Computer model: CHROMEBIT-B013C

Asus Chromebit CS10 Stick Computer

Quick Description

Access the full goodness of the web on any monitor or TV with an HDMI port. This means Netflix, YouTube, Outlook.com, FaceBook or even streaming services with no set-top boxes apps like, for instance: tou.tv.

This isn't the most powerful computer, for sure, and you'll need to supply your own keyboard and mouse combo (the Logitech K400 Plus would be a good fit in the living room). but the versatility offered by this little device can be really interesting.

It's often presented as a "portable" computer and that can be a little misleading. It has no battery so it is a computer you can take with you and convert any modern TV you encounter into a computer with relative ease. But it has to be turned off whenever you want to take it somewhere else.

Other Considerations

Here are a few things about this stationary computer which could come as a surprise. For each point, you will find how to fix it (if it's an issue) and how much to budget for it. Not every point below will be a concern, but hopefully, we can keep your surprises to a minimum.

Frequently Discounted. This device gets discounted on a regular basis (34.96% of the time to be exact).

Input Devices not included. Which usually means you will have to supply your own Keyboard and Mouse. You might already have a set from your previous computer. Otherwise, you will have to buy new ones. $40-$219

Slow storage. Once started, this stationary computer should perform ok, however, expect it to take some time to start up, launch programs and open large documents. Sadly, the hard drive in this model cannot be replaced.

Speakerless. This stationary computer needs external speakers to play sounds. Your options are to hook it up to a TV or a monitor with built-in speakers, use external speakers or a headset.$0-$500

No Camera or Microphone. If your plans include skyping with family members, you would need a webcam or, for best results, a headset and microphone.$40-$380

No Headphone Jack. Without a headphone jack, you will need a (more expensive) bluetooth headset to listen music privately. It also won't be possible to connect to traditional speakers or sound systems without a bluetooth feature.$50-$150

Screenless. If you don't already have a monitor from your last computer, you could connect this stationary computer to a TV or get a new monitor.$115-$650

No Optical Drive. If you still use CDs, DVDs, or Blu-Ray disks on a regular basis, you will need an external drive to read them with this stationary computer.$30-$150

Assuming you are starting over fresh, you can expect to spend $330 on accessories, for a total cost of $450.

Programs, Apps and Games it will handle

Activity ratings are good but sometimes, you want to be absolutely sure your next purchase will be able to run a specific piece of software.

A 1 star rating means the program'll be usable (according to the developer's own definition; some are more demanding than others); 3 stars mean recommended specs are met with this device; 5 stars will means you will have plenty of overhead to handle uncommon uses of that program like mods, plug-ins and more.
